And for good reason: the Haitian chef represented Haïti in the Guinness World Records in an extraordinary culinary competition. This challenge consisted of cooking for eight days non-stop, a bold way to showcase the richness of Haitian cuisine. It was in France, more precisely at the Anba Le Pont restaurant, located in Saint-Denis, that Leen Excellent embarked on this exceptional adventure. Starting on Monday, April 7, 2025, she cooked non-stop for nine consecutive days, totaling 187 hours of actual cooking time (after deducting statutory breaks). A historic achievement, combining endurance, passion, and cultural pride. So, if you were Chef Leen, what would be the first dish you would cook to represent Haitian cuisine to the world? The Haïti Wonderland editorial team asked a few readers this question: some readily answered white rice with pea and vegetable sauce, which they call GOAT. Others opted for a good lalo, a tasty pye kochon stew, a good tchaka, or even the famous morning rice. Given this diversity, I’ve chosen to present each dish mentioned in the survey over the weeks.

Moïse François: A young Haitian journalist committed to literature and social development

Moïse François is a young Haitian journalist, poet and law student at the State University of Haiti. He was born on November 13, 1999 in Port-au-Prince and is the eldest of a family of three children. He grew up between his hometown and Camp-Perrin, a small town in southern Haiti. Moïse François is a young Haitian with a remarkable academic and professional background, showing a deep passion for literature, journalism, social commitment and justice. He embodies this type of dynamic young person that the thirst of any great human society demands. Moïse claims above all to be a surveyor of the countries of his read books. "Literature, the kind that sets free, is my first home. I frequented Prague under the Soviet occupation of Milan Kundera, thanks to its literature, much better than some corners of Port-au-Prince, my hometown, largely plunged into horror and constant fear," he says. His great literary culture has largely contributed to his open-mindedness, his survival in this country and his impressive creativity.

A collector of paintings on canvas, he is also the founder of DEP-ARTS Production Multi-Services, a company he launched on December 2, 2018, which is now celebrating six years of active presence in the Carrefour community. Specializing in the sale of electronic equipment, MonCash and NatCash services among others, DEP-ARTS has built a solid reputation in six years. But beyond its commercial activities, it is through its ability to establish relationships of trust and support community initiatives that Pierry has established itself as a key player in its community. Under his leadership, DEP-ARTS is much more than a company: it is a symbol of hope in a town in search of renewal.
