Okap Dynamique Film: The New Generation Redefining Haitian Cinema

Discover how Okap Dynamique Film is transforming Cap-Haïtien into the capital of Haitian cinema with award-winning short films and inspired youth.

Cap-Haïtien is not only a historic and cultural city, it is also becoming fertile ground for Haitian cinema. At the heart of this excitement was born Okap Dynamique Film (ODF), an initiative that proves that passion and creativity can bring great projects to life, even with modest means.

An Adventure Born of Passion

ODF is the fruit of the energy and talent of young Cap-Haïtien residents determined to give a new voice to cinema in Haiti. It all began thanks to the vision of Sévère Mickha Makaël and Simon Bruce Wily, joined by Jefté Ismaël Oreste and Sévère Rapha Makaël, who structured and brought the project to life. With these four pioneers, the cinematic adventure officially began.

A Promising Beginning and Already International Recognition

After directing DERAN, a notable first short film, ODF made a big splash with L’Éveil de la Flamme, selected for the Nikon Film Festival in France. This international recognition proved that Haitian talent can shine beyond borders.

Training and Inspiring the Youth of Cap-Haïtien

Aware that cinema is also a tool for transmission and training, ODF offers acting and physical stunt workshops to young people from Cap-Haïtien and the surrounding area. From these training sessions, the Okap Dynamique Court-Métrage Film Challenge competition was born, revealing new talents such as Alusma Marc Jovenel, Jacques Stanley, Duvisien Emmanuel, and Nercitha Morisset.

National Recognition: Libète and Lanmò

In 2024, ODF participated in the LAKAYWOOD Festival, an international gathering of Haitian short films. Their film Libète ou Lanmò won the 2nd National Prize and the Best Action Film Award, confirming the collective’s growing strength.

The Shadow of the Border: A Step Toward the Future

Today, ODF takes a new step forward with its latest short film: The Shadow of the Border, co-directed by Jefté Ismaël Oreste and Fils-Aimé Pakison Samuel. Shot primarily in Ouanaminthe, this film symbolizes ODF’s ambition:

- To make cinema accessible to all,
- To provide a space for expression for young people,
- To build a strong and inclusive Haitian film industry.

The first screening will take place on October 4, 2025, in Ouanaminthe, an event that will mark a decisive milestone in the history of the initiative.

An invitation to believe in the future of Haitian cinema

With L’Ombre de la Frontière, ODF sends a dual message:

A call to hope, showing that Haitian cinema can be a source of meaning and a future.

A call to action, for Haitiansand especially young peopleto get involved in this creative and opportunity-filled field.

ODF, a breath of fresh air for Haitian culture

In just a few years, Okap Dynamique Film has established itself as a key player in the revival of Haitian cinema. Their journey demonstrates that with passion, perseverance, and a clear vision, it is possible to transform a young person’s dream into a true cultural movement.

Their ambition is clear: to make Haitian cinema not only a showcase of national culture, but also a tool for unity, creativity, and opportunity for all Haitian youth.

Bravo ODF!

Haiti: Is buying votes to be elected a form of corruption or political strategy?

The democratic political system requires the active participation of citizens in the management of the city. Everyone freely expresses their opinion for harmonious management of society. Generally the choices are made from the organization of free and honest elections. However, sometimes candidates use diverted means to achieve their ends. Can we consider this act as a form of corruption or a political strategy? In a democratic society, the organization of elections at regular intervals is an imperative. Managers are generally elected by the majority of voters, which ensures them a certain legitimacy within the framework of government management. Today, more and more, around the world, the elections are controlled by economic power. This sector gives a lot of silver to candidates who often buy the media services in order to have certain visibility through mass communication means (radio, VAT, Internet, etc.) and do without constraints Many very expensive trips, which require enormous capital. By the way, the possibility that a candidate with low financial means of being elected is increasingly reduced in Western societies. Despite everything, it is illegal to buy the votes of the voters. It is an act of corruption that should lead to criminal sanctions. No society can tolerate this practice which could hamper the degeneration of the democratic system and, consequently, of the electorate system. Civil society and human rights organizations must be vigilant in order to avoid these harmful drifts in the democratic system. In fact, the temptation to bribe the voters in order to access elective positions must be denounced as an act of corruption. In doing so, will lead to political dissenting between duty, and law, because citizens are called upon to freely choose the leaders of the city. Ultimately, the organization of the elections must be the fruit of consensus between the various groups of the social system. Managers must be chosen according to their ability to provide adequate answers to the problems of the company. They can still benefit from powerful financial means from other partners. But, giving voters directly money is a condemnable detective act which reduces the autonomy of action and thinking of voters. In this sense, the latter’s vote must reflect the desire to choose or build a fair, fair and favorable company.
