Cap-Haïtien is not only a historic and cultural city, it is also becoming fertile ground for Haitian cinema. At the heart of this excitement was born Okap Dynamique Film (ODF), an initiative that proves that passion and creativity can bring great projects to life, even with modest means.

ODF is the fruit of the energy and talent of young Cap-Haïtien residents determined to give a new voice to cinema in Haiti. It all began thanks to the vision of Sévère Mickha Makaël and Simon Bruce Wily, joined by Jefté Ismaël Oreste and Sévère Rapha Makaël, who structured and brought the project to life. With these four pioneers, the cinematic adventure officially began.
After directing DERAN, a notable first short film, ODF made a big splash with L’Éveil de la Flamme, selected for the Nikon Film Festival in France. This international recognition proved that Haitian talent can shine beyond borders.
Aware that cinema is also a tool for transmission and training, ODF offers acting and physical stunt workshops to young people from Cap-Haïtien and the surrounding area. From these training sessions, the Okap Dynamique Court-Métrage Film Challenge competition was born, revealing new talents such as Alusma Marc Jovenel, Jacques Stanley, Duvisien Emmanuel, and Nercitha Morisset.
In 2024, ODF participated in the LAKAYWOOD Festival, an international gathering of Haitian short films. Their film Libète ou Lanmò won the 2nd National Prize and the Best Action Film Award, confirming the collective’s growing strength.
Today, ODF takes a new step forward with its latest short film: The Shadow of the Border, co-directed by Jefté Ismaël Oreste and Fils-Aimé Pakison Samuel. Shot primarily in Ouanaminthe, this film symbolizes ODF’s ambition:
- To make cinema accessible to all,
- To provide a space for expression for young people,
- To build a strong and inclusive Haitian film industry.
The first screening will take place on October 4, 2025, in Ouanaminthe, an event that will mark a decisive milestone in the history of the initiative.
With L’Ombre de la Frontière, ODF sends a dual message:
A call to hope, showing that Haitian cinema can be a source of meaning and a future.
A call to action, for Haitiansand especially young peopleto get involved in this creative and opportunity-filled field.
In just a few years, Okap Dynamique Film has established itself as a key player in the revival of Haitian cinema. Their journey demonstrates that with passion, perseverance, and a clear vision, it is possible to transform a young person’s dream into a true cultural movement.
Their ambition is clear: to make Haitian cinema not only a showcase of national culture, but also a tool for unity, creativity, and opportunity for all Haitian youth.

Between dream and Haitian reality: A call for unity and action Many men have dreamed big for Haiti. Toussaint Louverture and Jean Jacques Dessalines are examples. Although torn apart by invisible hands, the social fabric of the country had always been considered the greatest project to be set in motion by men of letters. Until then, the history of Haïti remains and remains for Haitians the most appropriate space to dream and propose full and complete freedom. Indeed, Toussaint Louverture had the dream of improving the lot of slaves. Dessalines, for his part, sacrificed himself for the independence of our island (Haiti-Saint-Domingue). After our liberation from the French, men of letters had to take other paths to safeguard the dignity of the country. This situation showed another form of revolution like poets of the patriotism school with supporters such as: Louis Joseph Janvier, Anténor Firmin, Demesvar Délorme and the Generation of the Round with Fernand Hibbert, Georges Sylvain also the indigenous school with Jean Price Mars, Jacques Stephen Alexis, Roussan Camille etc... who express their discontent by pouring ink. Haïti needs for the moment men of dreams, men who love their countries, but not the wealth of this country, men who love the happiness of their country, but not its misfortunes, men who have viable projects , but are not specialists in carnage who are only interested in their pockets, rather for the happiness of our two-tone, men who must fight against corruption, against waste, against the invisible hands of foreigners, against this form of public administration which targets only a small group of people in the country to the detriment of the population, this form of insecurity planned by the state, the so-called bourgeoisies, economic powers from abroad such as: France, USA, Canada, Brazil. q~Haïti in 1979 with full power. Maître Fevry is said to have declared: The dream of Haïti cannot support, nor accept improvised solutions ~q. The Haitian’s dream must always be a team effort. A team of men of skill, vision, good will, reflection and meditation. q~ Men who can place their personal and private interests over public interests. Men who want to make a new start to achieve the dream of Jean Jacques Dessalines and that of Henri Christophe who aimed that Haitians will not envy any other country in the world so that all Haitians can be happy in their own country, chanted Professor Lesly Saint Roc Manigat.~q Our dear Haiti, which was once the pearl of the Antilles, is no longer present today. For this we ask all Haitians: children, young people, adults and old people, let us unite our arms, our strength, our voices and all that we could do to liberate our dear homeland Haïti Chérie. From a young age, she found shelter and refuge in words, offering solace against a world that is often too chaotic and difficult. While other young people of her age shared their lives out loud, she immersed herself in her own universe, that of writing. At the age of fourteen, writing became for her more than just a hobby: it became a means of finding inner peace, overcoming struggles, and understanding herself. It was in this context that she found her true vocation.
