A successful eighth outing for the Wednesday of the Monferrier Dorval chair

On Wednesday, October 24, 2024, in the premises of the Office of Citizen Protection, on the road to Bourdon, the 8th Wednesday outing of the Monferrier Dorval chair took place. As a reminder, the Wednesdays of the chair are one of the initiatives taken within the framework of the Monferrier Dorval chair of constitutional law, established on March 12 by the Council of the State University of Haïti (UEH). The rector, Mr. Fritz Deshommes, is the technical director. Professor Henri Marge Dorléans, former Minister of Justice, is the scientific director, and the dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics, Me Eugène Pierre Louis, holds the position of both technical and scientific vice-president. It should also be noted that the two main objectives of the chair are, on the one hand, to promote the memory of Professor Dorval, then President of the Bar Association, who was cowardly assassinated in front of his house, near that of the presidential couple at the time, on August 20, 2020. On the other hand, it is about promoting the work he had undertaken in the country, as a professor of constitutional law, around the need to make a constitutional change to facilitate effective governance and better institutional management of Haiti.

Jacmel: the Haitian city whose history is linked to the liberation of Latin America

Jacmel is a city located on the southern coast of Haiti, specifically in the southeastern department. To this day, the city is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture and rich historical heritage, as well as its carnival, one of the most famous in the Caribbean. Jacmel is one of the oldest cities in Haiti. Its origins, according to some historians, trace back to the time of the Taíno people, the island’s first inhabitants, who lived here long before the arrival of Christopher Columbus and his settlers in 1492. Long before it became Jacmel, this city in southeastern Haïti was called Yakimel. The renaming of Jacmel was carried out by the French during their colonization of the western part of the island of Hispaniola. Nature is fully embraced here, and the sea remains a source of joy throughout the day. Montreal celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of King Coupé Cloué and Queen Celia Cruz

The Légendaires collective, based in Montreal, announces the celebration and commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the births of Coupé Cloué and Celia Cruz, born on May 16th for Coupé Cloué and October 21st for Celia Cruz. This highly deserved gesture of appreciation for these two major figures of Caribbean music is a demonstration of the bright legacy they left behind after their time on this earth. When referring to their contributions to the musical world and the magnificent symbolism their voices represent for their respective countries, this commemoration is indeed an opportunity to celebrate their identity alongside their music. The main events scheduled for this commemoration will take place on February 28th, May 10th, and October 18th. The event on February 28th at the Maison d’Haïti located at #3245, Émile-Journault Avenue will mark the launch of the celebrations honoring both artists. There will also be a Gala on May 10th in honor of King Coupé and October 18th in honor of the Cuban Queen.

"The term Imana is not the equivalent of God-Goddess which is a Western vision of divinity. Indeed,: "the term "imana" does not designate above all a personal being that should be honored and implored, but a diffuse fluid that should be captured." In other words, Imana is a neutral vital force that manifests itself in the inner cosmos of each living being." ¹ Imana, by Michel Darlin Johancy is a musical, symphonic and spiritual journey through three geographies: an inner geography of meditation, a cultural identity journey and an artistic musical stroll. These three itineraries unfold in Haitian spaces. This symphonic and spiritual journey takes place in 10 stages or 10 movements.

Edikanèt, a Digital Initiative in Favor of Haitian Creole

Edikanèt is an association dedicated to education in the Haitian Creole language on the Internet. Founded in 2019 at Lycée Toussaint Louverture, the organization works to promote, recognize, and use Haitian Creole in all educational, social, and institutional spaces in the country. It was created by three young activists committed to this cause: Luc Cadet FIGARO, Alan Joe JEAN, and Marcus JUSMA. From the beginning, Edikanèt set itself key goals: promoting education in Creole across all regions of Haiti; creating educational materials in Creole; fighting against linguistic discrimination toward Creole speakers; and elevating Creole as a language of instruction, culture, and prestige. This initiative was born out of awareness of the persistent marginalization of Haitian Creole in Haitian society. Their most recent major initiative was a quiz competition held in July 2025, focused on general knowledge—such as Haitian history, geography, culture, mathematics, Creole grammar, and other subjects related to learning in Creole. The winner, Roobens D. Victor, came out first among 113 participants.
