Melchie Daëlle Dumornay, a Haitian Star Among the Elite of World Football

Melchie Daëlle Dumornay is a professional Haitian footballer who plays in the first division of the French women’s league. She was born in Haiti, in a mid-sized town called Mirebalais, on August 17, 2003. At just 21 years old, she has become the only Haitian personality, regardless of gender or category, to be nominated among the 30 candidates for the prestigious individual award that is the France Football Ballon d’Or. Indeed, the 21-year-old finds herself — unsurprisingly — on the shortlist for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, alongside some of the biggest names in world football, after an exceptional season both individually — scoring 24 goals and providing 10 assists in just 31 matches — and collectively. She reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (where she was named best player of the 2024-2025 season) and won the French league title with her Lyon teammates.

A successful eighth outing for the Wednesday of the Monferrier Dorval chair

On Wednesday, October 24, 2024, in the premises of the Office of Citizen Protection, on the road to Bourdon, the 8th Wednesday outing of the Monferrier Dorval chair took place. As a reminder, the Wednesdays of the chair are one of the initiatives taken within the framework of the Monferrier Dorval chair of constitutional law, established on March 12 by the Council of the State University of Haïti (UEH). The rector, Mr. Fritz Deshommes, is the technical director. Professor Henri Marge Dorléans, former Minister of Justice, is the scientific director, and the dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics, Me Eugène Pierre Louis, holds the position of both technical and scientific vice-president. It should also be noted that the two main objectives of the chair are, on the one hand, to promote the memory of Professor Dorval, then President of the Bar Association, who was cowardly assassinated in front of his house, near that of the presidential couple at the time, on August 20, 2020. On the other hand, it is about promoting the work he had undertaken in the country, as a professor of constitutional law, around the need to make a constitutional change to facilitate effective governance and better institutional management of Haiti.

Csimon Publishing Takes a New Step Toward Young Haitian Authors

The publishing house Csimon Publishing, led by Dr. Cherlin Simon, is excited to announce the creation of a subsidiary of Csimon Publishing in Haiti. Indeed, a management team, aimed at strengthening its approach to young Haitian authors, has been set up by the parent company, located in Virginia, United States. The goal of this initiative is to better support its authors, particularly the younger ones, offering them reliable assistance to foster their creativity and help them thrive. The committee is also in place to better coordinate the publishing house’s actions in their favor. This aligns perfectly with Csimon Publishing’s vision to actively contribute to the elevation of Haitian literary culture on a global scale, while highlighting Haitian talents and creating a bridge between Haïti and the rest of the world, which constitutes global culture. It is worth noting that among the more than 150 works already published by Csimon, most are works by Haitian authors living in Haiti.

René Depestre, a life of Literature and Commitment

René Depestre had his very first encounter with the Haitian sun on August 29, 1926 in Jacmel, a large coastal city in the southeast of Haïti that welcomed his birth. He completed his primary studies with the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Jacmel. After his father’s death in 1936, he left his mother and brothers and sisters to live with his maternal grandmother. He completed his secondary studies at the Alexandre Pétion high school in Port-au-Prince in 1944. Today, he resides in France, his country of naturalization for several decades, and remains an immense creative, intellectual spirit and great witness to a very important era in the history of men.

Letter to My Favorite Author: An Initiative by CSimon Publishing and the Port-au-Prince Book Fair

The "Letter to My Favorite Author" contest is a joint initiative by CSmon Publishing, a publishing house based in Virginia, USA, and the Port-au-Prince Book Fair. The contest aims to create a platform where young literature enthusiasts can express their affection and admiration for the authors who have impacted their lives through a letter dedicated to them. This letter can be written in Haitian Creole or French by any young person aged 18 to 30 living in Haiti. The author to whom the letter is addressed can be Haitian or foreign, and even from the medieval period. The contest began on January 27, with registration closing on that date, and will continue until April 15, when the prizes will be awarded. The awards, which are 75,000 gourdes for the winner, 50,000 gourdes for the second place, and 25,000 gourdes for third place, will be presented during the event "Living in Prose and Poetry," organized annually by the Port-au-Prince Book Fair, to be held in 2025 at the French Institute in Haiti.

Rendez-vous Christ is preparing to celebrate its 9th anniversary on March 23. On this occasion, the church plans to visit prisoners, sharing the good news of the Gospel, eating with them, and offering other gifts.
