Emeline Michel, the diva of Haitian music

Emeline Michel was born on March 21, 1966 in Dubedou, a small town located in the 5th communal section of Gonaïves, the city of Haitian independence. Both a singer and composer, today her influence transcends and goes beyond the borders of Haïti and the French-speaking world. After starting secondary studies at the Lycée Louis Diaquoi commonly known as the Lycée de jeunes filles des Gonaïves, she entered Port-au-Prince, at one point, to continue her studies at the Collège St Pierre de Port-au-Prince. It was in the Haitian capital, more precisely at the Baptiste de Bolosse church, that her talent was discovered and supported by religious leaders, who offered her scholarships to study music. UNESCO, Haïti Jazz Foundation and MCC Unite for Kreyol Jazz

On Monday, April 28, 2025, UNESCO, represented by Mr. Éric Voli Bi, Director for Haiti, the Haïti Jazz Foundation, represented by Ms. Milena Sandler, Executive Director, and Mr. Joel Widmaier, Artistic Director of PAP Jazz, along with the Ministry of Culture and Communication, represented by Ms. Stéphanie Saint-Louis, Director of Cultural Affairs at the MCC, held a press conference at UNESCO’s office on Rue Geffrard in Pétion-Ville. During the event, they announced their alliance to promote Kreyol Jazz.

PAQÉMO, music in the Service of Education and Hope in Haiti

PAQÉMO, short for "Projet Artistique de Quartiers et Éducatif Musical en Orchestre" (Neighborhood Artistic and Educational Orchestral Music Project), is an ambitious initiative launched in 2022 by the Association Musicale et Éducative à Vocation Sociale (AMEVS), co-founded by Jéricho Pierre-Noël and Cecilia Madolena Clénard, Haitian students at Sorbonne University. Today, the project includes other names such as Sargine Any Melissa Bernard, Mohamed Etamine, Ege Tarik Eken, Youssef Naccache, and Sohann List Massaregli, all Sorbonne students dedicated to promoting access to musical education in Haiti—particularly classical music—as a tool for holistic development. The goal of PAQÉMO’s founders is to use music as a means of education, inclusion, and social transformation, integrated alongside the traditional Haitian school curriculum.

Haitian musical sensation Rutshelle Guillaume has been awarded the prestigious Nuits d’Afrique Prize for Francophonie. This distinction was presented to her this Monday, the day after her electrifying performance which closed the festival, attracting hundreds of spectators impatient to see the performance of the one nicknamed the “Queen of Kompa”.

Maello ERO: A rising star of Haitian rap

Maello ERO, whose real name is Woodmaer DOLMA, was born in Petit-Goâve on November 17, 1994. From a young age, he stood out for his talent and determination. He completed his primary studies at the Wesleyan School of Fond-Doux and his secondary studies at the Collège Mixte Capois La Mort (COMICAM). In 2013, while still a student, he began his artistic career as a rapper. His integration into the group “Zerocks”, made up of young singers and rappers, allowed him to develop his talent and express his passion for music. In 2016, Maello ERO distinguished himself by winning third prize in the rap competition organized in Petit-Goâve under the theme: "Ann fete Nwel nan pataj pou lanmou jemen nan Tigwav". This victory marked a turning point in his musical career. The following year, in 2017, he released his debut track titled "Koz mwen se ERO Star", which received a warm reception from the audience. In 2021, he joined the group MJM (Maello Jay-T and Master Guy), with whom he produced several titles including "Mwen vle mennen w" in collaboration with Povenzoe (October 2022), "MJM nan kay la" (September 2022), “Fanm sadomin m” (November 2022), “Mèsi manman” and a carnival song entitled “Leve kanpe”.
