REN Fan Club: A Moment of Relaxation for Haitian Youth

The Rassemblement pour une Entente Nationale (REN) is a Haitian civil society organization that actively works for a more just, inclusive, and prosperous Haiti. It firmly believes that the transformation of the country depends on the involvement of its citizens, particularly youth and women, who are the pillars of tomorrow, especially given their significant demographic weight in the Haitian population. Guided by this vision, REN focuses its efforts on training, raising awareness, and mobilizing these key groups to help them realize their strength and their ability to drive real change for Haiti’s development.

A Necessity

Today, more than ever, this mission is essential. Haïti is going through a deep, multifaceted, and prolonged crisis. Political instability, growing insecurity, deteriorating living conditions, and the collapse of institutions to name just a few are major sources of concern for Haitians in their daily lives. These issues affect the population at various levels, and especially the youth. In the Haitian capital, for instance (although this doesn’t summarize the whole country’s situation), young people struggle to find breathing space, moments of relaxation, exchange, or simply joy. Many live in constant frustration, trapped in a harsh reality marked by uncertainty and discouragement. But a frustrated and isolated youth is not what Haïti needs right now. To get out of this crisis, the country needs fulfilled, confident, and united young people youth who are capable of dreaming, coming together, and building. That’s the goal of the REN Fan Club initiative.

A Space to Breathe, Reconnect, Dream

The REN Fan Club is a simple yet powerful initiative. It is a welcoming space open to young people, especially those who can reach REN’s offices located in Delmas 75. The goal is to offer them a day of relaxation, games (traditional, intellectual, video games…), sharing, and meals. It’s a much-needed break in their often difficult daily lives a moment where they can feel young, alive, and supported.

But beyond entertainment, the REN Fan Club is also a place for informal learning, connection with peers, and discussion of topics that concern them. These interactions strengthen social ties and foster a spirit of solidarity, respect, and engagement. Young people leave more motivated, better equipped, and sometimes transformed by these simple moments of collective joy. Through this initiative, REN proves that you don’t always need major resources to make a difference. Sometimes all it takes is a space, some listening, food, and fraternity to restore hope. And with hope, everything becomes possible.

Meet Edison Juste: An Outstanding Singer

Beyond the chaos, in the heart of the desolation, there are voices that resonate. They shatter the silence, depicting the macabre reality of everyday life in a thousand shards, thus defying evil to give meaning to life and make each day a place where hope flows like a stream of honey. Edison Juste’s voice is one of them: it sings of hope, of love, while praising God. It was in Carrefour, 27 years ago, that the young singer’s sun rose within a family of four children. Edison Juste is the youngest. Between the diplomat, the lawyer, and the entrepreneur that he is, singing remains his greatest passion for this young married man. Like many Haitian singers, Edison Juste took his first steps at a very early age in a choir—Yahvé Shama—alongside children his own age. He would later become the lead singer. This was in 2010. Asked about his first real encounter with music, he replied: q~It was in 2013 that I really started singing. It was during a competition organized by Styl Doz at the Évangélique de la Grâce church,~q, says the active member of the group YES (Yon Enstriman Sen), who also expresses his gratitude to singer Joseph Rhousteau, who inspired and coached him for several years. Edison Juste stands out not only for his style, but also for his versatility. His ability to make the notes vibrate with a moving candor seems limitless. Yet, he has his preferences: q~There isn’t a single style that characterizes me. I see myself as a liquid: I take the shape of the container. Even if I remain haunted by Worship, Compass, and Jazz, he confides. Today, the Carrefour native boasts a rich and varied musical repertoire. From 2010 to 2025, he has grown both in maturity and in renown: five competition wins, his first song recorded in 2018, joining the band YES, his participation in the second album, Se pou m beni, a collaboration with Amos César in a musical, and his contribution to the album Anprent by maestro Berwin Sydney. For him, this journey is already a great source of inspiration. Edison Juste never does without the presence of God, whether in the creative process or during his stage performances: "What influences and motivates me the most is always the presence of Elohim, and the audience’s desire to savor and appreciate my work," he says.

Here are five compelling reasons why you should definitely visit Haiti’s beaches

1- Abaka Bay (Île-à-Vache): Start your Haitian adventure with the magnificent Abaka Bay, recently named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by CNN. Located on the enchanting island of Île à Vache, this bay offers a pristine white sand beach and calm Caribbean waters, framed by lush green hills. Abaka Bay Resort offers a truly exclusive and secluded experience, with bungalows located directly on the beach, offering panoramic views and direct access to the fine sand and crystal clear sea. The dining options are equally impressive, with one restaurant offering breathtaking ocean views and epic sunsets. To get to Île à Vache, simply take a 15-20 minute boat ride from Les Cayes, located off the southern coast of Haiti. 2- Île à Rat (Amiga Island): As soon as you set foot on Île à Rat (also known as Amiga Island), this little slice of paradise will steal your heart. Its smooth white sand beach immediately catches the eye, while gentle waves create a dreamy oasis against the pearly shore. Located in the turquoise waters off the coast of Plaine du Nord in northern Haiti, Île à Rat is a 1.8 hectare piece of white coral covered in a small wild forest. The island is a peaceful retreat, especially for couples looking for a serene getaway. To get to Île à Rat, you can take one of the many water taxis waiting in Labadee, a 30-minute drive from Cap-Haïtien. Keep in mind that the island is uninhabited, so it is important to bring everything you need for a comfortable stay, including drinking water. 3- Côtes des Arcadins: Nestled north of the bay of Port-au-Prince, Côtes des Arcadins stretches over 19 kilometers of white sand beaches lined with palm trees, making it one of the most popular seaside destinations from Haiti. The combination of the deep blue sea, mountains, mangrove forests and the coral reef formed by the Arcadins islets creates a breathtaking spectacle. It is also a great place for divers. To get there, follow the road north of the bay of Port-au-Prince. You will be amazed by the natural beauty of this region. 4- Plage de Gelée: This beach is one of the most popular thanks to its crystal clear waters and soft sand, all with a pastoral landscape in the background. If you are looking for a place to relax and soak up the sun, Gelée Beach is a great choice. 5- Jacmel Beach: Although swimming is not recommended here, Jacmel Beach is famous for its picturesque charm and artistic atmosphere.
