The Haïti Monde Festival is a major cultural event dedicated to promoting Haitian thought, memory, and creativity in the heart of Paris. Led for several years by Haitian intellectual Chadrac Charles and his team, it aims to be a space for expression, transmission, and reflection. In 2025, this fourth edition is organized around a theme that is more relevant than ever: “Repairing the World,” and will take place from June 25 to July 11 in the French capital. Gaël Octavia, winner of the 2025 Goncourt Prize for the short story, will be the guest of honor. Alongside her, other friends of the Haitian cause and powerful voices from the Haitian literary scene will be gathered. Among them: geographer Jean-Marie Théodat, Louis-Philippe Dalembert, Rocé, Mélissa Laveaux, Marie-Yemta Moussanang, Makenzy Orcel, Françoise Vergès, Lyonel Trouillot, Nicolas Idier, Nathania Périclès, Vladimir Delva, Sandra Dessalines, Claude Saturne, Kébert Bastien, Jude Joseph... and many others. A tribute will also be paid to Frankétienne and Anthony Phelps, two giants of Haitian literature who passed away this year.
On Saturday, July 27, the Pyepoudre cultural center, located at number 312 on the road to Bourdon, was transformed into a real creative hive thanks to the initiative of the Cultural Association Salon du Livre de Port-au-Prince entitled ’’Living in prose and poetry’’. This event, placed under the theme "from Haiti, a country that lives in us", fully kept its promises. Bringing together young talents from all walks of life to express their genius through song, rap, slam, dance and poetry. This artistic event was a great success with a young audience who came in large numbers to follow the activity. It also highlighted the growing commitment of Haitian youth to culture.
Jean-Jacques Dessalines is an emblematic figure in modern world history for his fruitful involvement in the fight against the slave system. Through his dedication and courage, he embodied the indomitable spirit of an entire black people forcibly deported from the African continent, implanted by this same violent mechanism, in America to suffer, but determined to free themselves from oppression by forging their own destiny despite all the risks and difficulties. Dessalines’ entire life, his entire journey bears the mark of a life inscribed in the fight to free his loved ones. His unfailing determination and passion for freedom made him a living symbol of resistance for all the oppressed nations of the earth, more than two centuries after his death. We wrongly associate the image of Jean-Jacques Dessalines with chaos. The sole aim is to discredit his immense legacy before the eyes of history. “Koupe tèt, boule Kay” is the preferred expression to use for such purposes against his character, along the way, expressly forgetting the historical context hidden in the back of the “koupe tèt boule Kay” in question, also refusing to register this approach historical in the logic of a just and courageous stand, in the face of a barbaric, slavery system, devoid of morality and humanity.
On Thursday, October 24, 2024, the Center for Political and Diplomatic Studies, CEPOD, launched its Diplomatic Fortnight via a summit that took place at the Montana Hotel in Pétionville. The event took place under the theme of Haiti’s place in globalization, and in the presence of an audience of distinguished guests. consisting of public authorities such as the current Haitian Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille (Honorary President of the summit); his Minister Delegate for Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Herwil Gaspard; Foreign diplomats, among whom we can cite the Canadian Ambassador, Mr. André François Giroux (Guest of Honor of the summit); Dr. Christian Mouala, Country Director of UNAIDS Haiti, and a group of other public figures (such as sociologist Daniel Supplice), members of the press, such as senior journalist, Rotchild François Junior and students of all kinds.
On Sunday, April 6, 2025, the Karibe Convention Center in Juvenat transformed into a true cultural temple to close the 18th edition of the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival (PAPJAZZ). This year, the festival took place under the evocative theme "PAP JAZZ it UP", and it was held in three sites primarily located in the Pétion-Ville commune. The festival took place entirely at these wonderful musical venues: a reference was made to the Latin Quarter, the Haiti-Brazil Cultural Center, and the Karibe Hotel. Due to the deteriorating situation in downtown Port-au-Prince in recent times, the French Institute site had to be abandoned by the festival organizers. Nevertheless, we can absolutely call this 18th edition of Pap Jazz a success. Indeed, this festival, now a major event of the Haitian year, was especially marked this year by the great resilience and determination of the organizers who were able to adapt to the country’s rhythm in order to satisfy their loyal festival-goers. Despite the difficult context, these festival-goers did not miss the opportunity to escape their harsh daily lives through music. It’s also important to note that this 18th edition of Pap Jazz took place after two postponements, at the very beginning of this year, with the last one occurring in March due to insecurity. In this regard, it is appropriate to call the monumental achievement of the Haïti Jazz Foundation and their partners an exceptional feat, as they were not discouraged and showed remarkable tenacity, while adapting to offer Port-au-Prince and its surroundings this moment of growth, beyond the city’s great sorrow, through music.
On Wednesday, October 24, 2024, in the premises of the Office of Citizen Protection, on the road to Bourdon, the 8th Wednesday outing of the Monferrier Dorval chair took place. As a reminder, the Wednesdays of the chair are one of the initiatives taken within the framework of the Monferrier Dorval chair of constitutional law, established on March 12 by the Council of the State University of Haïti (UEH). The rector, Mr. Fritz Deshommes, is the technical director. Professor Henri Marge Dorléans, former Minister of Justice, is the scientific director, and the dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics, Me Eugène Pierre Louis, holds the position of both technical and scientific vice-president. It should also be noted that the two main objectives of the chair are, on the one hand, to promote the memory of Professor Dorval, then President of the Bar Association, who was cowardly assassinated in front of his house, near that of the presidential couple at the time, on August 20, 2020. On the other hand, it is about promoting the work he had undertaken in the country, as a professor of constitutional law, around the need to make a constitutional change to facilitate effective governance and better institutional management of Haiti.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, UNESCO, represented by Mr. Éric Voli Bi, Director for Haiti, the Haïti Jazz Foundation, represented by Ms. Milena Sandler, Executive Director, and Mr. Joel Widmaier, Artistic Director of PAP Jazz, along with the Ministry of Culture and Communication, represented by Ms. Stéphanie Saint-Louis, Director of Cultural Affairs at the MCC, held a press conference at UNESCO’s office on Rue Geffrard in Pétion-Ville. During the event, they announced their alliance to promote Kreyol Jazz.
