King Graph: The Image of a Young Haitian Passionate About Graphic Design

King Graph, Prévil Jean IVens by his real name, is a talented young GRAPHIC DESIGNER and COMMUNITY MANAGER from Haiti. He was born in Delmas, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, on January 20, 1999. He is the youngest of seven children.

A Passionate Soul

Since a young age, he has always been passionate about everything related to art, an inheritance he received by observing one of his older brothers, Sendley PREVIL, who is a painter, in the practice of painting, screen printing, and other graphic works.

This led him to start painting at the age of 12. As he grew older, his appreciation for art intensified and developed. This is how he deepened his knowledge more and more in the field. "When I was in 10th grade, I wanted to innovate, and that’s when I started creating flyers with apps on my Android phone. Every day, I watched YouTube tutorials to learn how to create better designs on my phone. After my studies, I decided to become a professional in this field because I often got contracts, but an Android was no longer enough to fulfill them. I then decided to go to school to learn how to create graphic designs on a computer. It was there that I discovered software like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, to name just a few," the interested party himself shared with us.

Additionally, he told us that since then, he considers himself fully integrated into the global graphic design community. "Thanks to graphic design, I’ve accomplished many things in my life. For me, GRAPHIC DESIGN is a blank world that was given to me so I could draw in it according to my desires. Graphic design is about transforming all ideas into images," the young Haitian talent declared.

A Dynamic Youth for a Country More Adapted to the Realities of the World

The young graphic designer’s works are mostly visible in his projects for the organizing team of the Port-au-Prince Book Fair, where he is the official graphic designer. His mark remains a brand that leaves an impression because of its originality. King Graph is one of those young people who occupy and concern themselves with their reasonable flame, the dark soul of the country, through the transcendent effectiveness of their talent. He is one of those young people capable of inspiring, through their honorable practice, any living being on our planet.

Graphic Design, A Job Like Any Other

In an increasingly digital world, the profession of graphic design is becoming more and more necessary. With the arrival and rise of artificial intelligence, the world has become a place that increasingly demands mastery of tech-related professions. It is a world that needs more and more good images for oneself and for businesses. Haïti must catch up in this regard because we are no longer in the time when professions like law and medicine were the most valued in the world.

In 2024, young Haitians must realize that there are many more opportunities than just traditional professions ahead of them, and that fields like graphic design are disciplines in which they can build successful careers. This is exactly why King Graph remains an excellent example. He is a young person who thrives in his work and is not worried about his professional future.

The Haitian Carnival: A Festival of Colors, Music and Traditions

The Haitian carnival, an emblematic and essential celebration of the country’s festive calendar, is much more than a simple party. It embodies the very essence of Haitian culture, joyfully blending ancestral traditions, intoxicating music and a deep sense of community. Each year, this vibrant celebration transforms the streets into a vibrant and colorful spectacle, attracting thousands of participants and spectators eager to take part in this one-of-a-kind celebration. Haitian carnival has deep roots in the country’s history, dating back to colonial times. It has evolved over the centuries, incorporating elements of African, French and Creole culture to create a distinct and captivating celebration. The carnival period in Haïti traditionally begins in January and culminates with extravagant festivities that take place over several days. One of the most striking features of the Haitian carnival is the profusion of colors. Traditional costumes, called "masks", are elaborate and beautifully designed. They feature vivid patterns and vibrant decorations, creating a vivid picture of Haitian cultural identity. Participants, dressed in these elaborate costumes, parade through the streets to the sound of lively music, creating an electric atmosphere. Music is at the heart of the Haitian carnival. The captivating rhythms of compass, rasin, rara and other local musical genres resonate throughout the city, inviting people to dance to the rhythm of the party. Orchestras parade through the streets, accompanying the dancers and creating a unique symbiosis between the music and the graceful movements of the participants. The Haitian carnival parade is not just about the music and costumes; it also celebrates the richness of street arts. Talented artists create giant sculptures, art installations and theatrical performances that tell deep stories of Haitian history and culture. These artistic expressions contribute to the transmission of values and stories that shape the identity of the Haitian people.
