According to Article 4 of the Haitian Constitution of 1987, the national motto is clear: Liberty Equality Fraternity.
These three words are not mere slogans. They represent a deep historical heritage, linked to the French Revolution, but also an adaptation to the realities of Haiti, born from the Revolution of 1804, which put an end to slavery and colonialism.
1. Liberty: It recalls the struggle of slaves to break their chains and proclaim independence in 1804. In Haiti, freedom is not an abstract concept, but a right won with blood and dignity.
2. Equality: It expresses the desire for a society without racial hierarchies or social discrimination. All Haitian citizens, without distinction, must be equal before the law.
3. Fraternity: It symbolizes the unity and solidarity necessary to build a strong nation in the face of historical and contemporary challenges.
The national motto “Liberty Equality Fraternity” accompanies other official emblems:
The Haitian flag: blue and red, symbolizing the unity of the people.
The Arms of the Republic: a palm tree topped with the cap of liberty, surrounded by cannons and weapons, bearing the legend “Unity is Strength.”
These combined symbols recall Haiti’s determination to remain free, sovereign, and united.
In a global context marked by inequality and social crises, the Haitian motto remains relevant today. It inspires not only Haitian citizens, but also all those fighting for justice, dignity, and equality around the world.

Cheffe Leen! A name that’s been making the rounds on social media in recent weeks! And for good reason: the Haitian chef represented Haïti in the Guinness World Records in an extraordinary culinary competition. This challenge consisted of cooking for eight days non-stop, a bold way to showcase the richness of Haitian cuisine. It was in France, more precisely at the Anba Le Pont restaurant, located in Saint-Denis, that Leen Excellent embarked on this exceptional adventure. Starting on Monday, April 7, 2025, she cooked non-stop for nine consecutive days, totaling 187 hours of actual cooking time (after deducting statutory breaks). A historic achievement, combining endurance, passion, and cultural pride. So, if you were Chef Leen, what would be the first dish you would cook to represent Haitian cuisine to the world? The Haïti Wonderland editorial team asked a few readers this question: some readily answered white rice with pea and vegetable sauce, which they call GOAT. Others opted for a good lalo, a tasty pye kochon stew, a good tchaka, or even the famous morning rice. Given this diversity, I’ve chosen to present each dish mentioned in the survey over the weeks.

This can have serious consequences for tourism, foreign investment, and even the national pride of Haïtians. Furthermore, it creates a distortion of reality, masking the many positive and inspiring aspects of Haïti. b~A Call for Editorial Responsibility:~b It is imperative that Haïtian online media take editorial responsibility in ensuring that the images and stories they broadcast reflect the diversity and richness of Haïti. Rather than focusing only on the negative aspects, they should highlight the successes, positive initiatives, and exceptional contributions of Haïtians to global society. b~Promote a Balanced Image:~b Haïti’s diversity, both culturally and socially, deserves to be celebrated. Haïtian online media have the opportunity to play a key role in promoting a more balanced image of the country by highlighting its successes, its innovations and its rich history. This will not only help educate the global public, but also inspire pride and confidence in Haïtians themselves. It is time for Haïtian online media to realize their power as opinion shapers and actively contribute to transforming Haïti’s image. By choosing to share balanced and positive stories, they can play a vital role in building a more accurate and respectful perception of this remarkable country. It is a call for editorial responsibility, sensitivity and national pride, in order to restore Haïti to its rightful place on the world stage.
